HCMC uses two main venues for the bulk of its club events, one gravel (Pebblebrook which is used all year round) and one grass (Bayers Fram used in the summer). We also use a farm North of Whangarei for an annual triathlon which uses both grass and gravel surfaces. Below you will find information on these venues, including instructions on how to visit them. For maps showing venues or driving directions from your home visit the wises.co.nz website and enter the name of the road the venue is on, i.e Pebblebrook Road.
NOTE: As these venues are private property we ask that you do not visit them except when HCMC is running an event. If you'd like to come to one of our events as a spectator, check out the coming events page.
Pebblebrook Quarry, Wainui Quarry
Pebblebrook Quarry and Wainui Quarry are private venues near Dairy Flat, north
of Auckland. At Pebblebrook Quarry there is a twisty 1km gravel road leading up
to a small quarry clearing, events held range from Hillclimbs and Bentsprints
(racing up the road) to Motorkhanas and Autocrosses (in the quarry itself).
Wainui Quarry is a larger gravel quarry used for Motorkhanas and Autocrosses.
Directions to get there:
Travel north along the Northern Motorway, exiting the motorway at the
Silverdale interchange. Turn left at the interchange and then immediately right
into Pine Valley Rd. Travel to the end of Pine Valley Rd and turn right at the
end (into Kahikatea Flats Rd). Travel along Kahikatea Flats Rd until reaching
Waitoki. Turn right into Wainui Rd (opposite the BP service station) and travel
along here for about 3 minutes. Pebblebrook Rd is on the left just after a
brow. Wainui Quarry is on the right-hand side approx 1km up Pebblebrook Rd,
Pebblebrook Quarry is on the right-hand side at the very end of Pebblebrook Rd.
When driving up Pebblebrook Rd please respect the neighbours peace by keeping
to below 50km/h.
Bayers Farm
Bayers Farm is a small farm in Wainui owned by the club photographer Trevor
Bayer. Motorkhanas and Autocrosses are held in paddocks and the winding farm
tracks are used for Hillclimbs and Bentsprints.
Directions to get there:
Travel north along the Northern Motorway, exiting the motorway at the
Silverdale interchange and turning right to head into Silverdale. Once in
Silverdale turn left into Waiwera Rd (at the top of Silverdale hill, opposite
the BP service station). Travel along here for about 5 minutes until turning
right into Upper Orewa Rd (second road on the right after ). Travel to the end
of Upper Orewa Rd and turn left at the end. Bayers Farm is on the right about
100 metres from the start of the gravel.
Glen
Road
Not an HCMC venue but it is frequently used by the Auckland
Car Club to hold motorkhanas which HCMC counts for points.
The events are actually held on a reserve (consisting of two
grassy paddocks) off Glen Road which itself is in West Auckland.
Directions
to get there: Travel
to the end of the North-Western motorway at West Gate.
If coming from the motorway turn left (if coming from the North
Shore via Hobsonville Rd continue past West Gate) and continue until you
reach the large roundabout by KFC. Turn
left into Don Buck Road and stay on it for about 2 kilometers.
It will wind down a steep hill at the bottom of which will be an
intersection with a traffic island,
turn right here into Glen Road.
Drive along Glen Road (past the Luanda Drive turn off),
the reserve is on the right just past the pony club.
Foremans Corner
Foremans Corner is 30 minutes north of Auckland, owned by Shane Foreman (aka
George). This is currently the venue for our weekend away, Auckland Anniversary
weekend. A Motorkhana and Autocross is held in paddocks and the access
road is used for a Hillclimb. Only road tyres meeting the HCMC rule are
permitted to be used at this venue. See the
Trophy Regulations document available from the
Downloads page.
Directions to get there:
Travel north through Whangarei approx 25 km to Whakapara, turn right into
Russel Rd (the road to Oakura Bay). Take the second right (4km) into Pigs
Head Rd. After 4.5 km cross a one lane bridge and immediately turn left into
Kaiikanui Rd. Follow Kaiikanui Rd approx 7km, on the left you will find
Foremans Corner. Please take it easy on the gravel, we don't want George
getting any grief from the residents.
Taupo Centennial Park
Raceway
The club usually tries to hold one event a year at the Taupo circuit,
often a weekend of circuit sprints or a combination of circuit sprints and some
other event type (i.e autocross). Since the Taupo circuit is small and
has a number of corners it is excellent for smaller cars cars and there's
usually a lot of competition out there on the track when the club members get
going.
Directions to get there:
(Entering Taupo coming from the Auckland direction) turn left at
the first round about you come to, you should now be on Spa
Road. Keep following Spa road until you see the sign posted
entrance to the circuit on your left.
Generally the venues will be arrowed from the nearest main road (usually State
Highway One), so if in doubt follow the large arrows! If you do get
lost, feel free to contact a club official
or committee member.
