Contrary to popular belief you do not need to have an expensive, high-powered vehicle with all sorts of fancy equipment in order to compete in motorsport. In fact, for many of the events HCMC run such vehicles would be less competitive than a standard road car. Yes, there are some events where you require stuff such as rollcages, but these events are expensive, and there are only a few of them run each year anyway.
Basic Requirements
The most common events run by HCMC are Motorkhanas, Autocrosses and Sprints, and none of these events require much fancy safety equipment. The basic requirements are:
For Motorkhanas not even any of the above requirements need to be met - as long as the car goes it should be eligible (no overalls etc required either)
Advanced Gear
Although not a necessity it is nice to have safety gear just in case it does go all wrong in a corner somewhere. The regulations for rollcages, full-harness seatbelts etc are quite complex (certain standards must be met, rollcages must be homologated etc) so if you are planning on adding such equipment to your car it is best to talk to someone such as one of our Scrutineers first. Technical requirements for such equipment can be found in Schedule A of the MotorSport NZ Manual, and is also able to be downloaded from MotorSport NZ.
Vehicles Currently In Use
Below is a list of vehicles currently in use by our members. The list is read dynamically from the websites database, so it contains only vehicles members have decided to add to the website for automated event entry and therefore isn't neccesarily a complete list of vehicles used. It does however give an indication of what you can expect to see at our events.
